Christmas Parade in Boyle Heights

Hotville Chicken in Gardena

[dropcap size=big]K[/dropcap]im Prince brings her famous Hotville Chicken pop-up to State Brewing in Gardena Saturday. Prince comes from Nashville hot chicken royalty. Her family founded and runs the James Beard Award-winning Prince’s Hot Chicken Shack in Nashville. More info here.

Holiday Parade in HP

[dropcap size=big]T[/dropcap]he Huntington Park Christmas Parade typically showcases Southeast L.A. high school bands, athletes, and cheerleaders. It's been going on for 68 years along Pacific and this year is no different. If you can't make it out, the event will air on ABC7. More info here.

Christmas Parade in Compton

[dropcap size=big]C[/dropcap]ompton also has one of the longest running holiday parades in L.A. This year, the 65th annual Compton Christmas Parade will roll down Compton Boulevard starting on Bullis and ending on Alameda. More info here.

Barbakush in Glendale

Smorgasburg LA in Santa Monica

[dropcap size=big]S[/dropcap]morgasburg is having a bonus event this week. Along with its regular Sunday at The Row in DTLA, the weekly food festival is having a special holiday festival Saturday on the Santa Monica Pier. More info here.

Ken Salter + Mazzy Star in Pasadena

[dropcap size=big]P[/dropcap]asadena artist Ken Salter's collaboration with Mazzy Star The Garden of Strange Loops is currently on display at Gallery 30 South. The immersive show features a Mazzy Star scored reflecting pool, "an interactive device that generates mesmerizing, neo-psychedelic, fractal images and sounds that captivate and hypnotize." The pool responds to hand movements.

The show runs through January 27 so if you can't catch it this weekend, there's still time. Tickets are only $15 but there is a limit on how many tickets you can buy per time slot. More info here.

Mr. Fries Man in East L.A.

[dropcap size=big]C[/dropcap]raig Batiste, aka Mr. Fries Man, is popping up at Sara's Market in East L.A. Sunday. The decadent fries specialist usually closes his tiny Gardena shop on Sundays, which is perfect for Eastsiders looking to score some honey garlic lemon shrimp fires or whatever he's bringing Sunday. Tacos and Books in Downtown L.A.

[dropcap size=big]P[/dropcap]hotographer and L.A. Taco contributor Sean Maung is having a book release party for Chain Smoke, and he's bringing Taco Madness winners Taqueria La Venganza Sunday to the These Days gallery in downtown. Venganza stars selling at 7 pm and will probably run out quickly. My advice is to get there early and try the assortment of vegan deliciousness while enjoying Maung's new noir thriller. Books and tacos. My two favorite things. More info here

Street Vendors Successfully Sue City to Remove Illegal ‘No Vending’ Signs And Won

L.A. will also have to reimburse the street vendors for their past fines relating to this controversial sign. However, this does not include any other fines related to equipment restrictions or lack of permits. This also means that while a vendor can’t be cited for vending in areas like the Hollywood Walk of Fame anymore, they can still get cited for other city regulations.

Empathy Through Tacos: Meet the Skid Row Taqueros Giving Away Free Food Every Friday to Downtown’s Homeless Community 

One of the taqueros who organizes the weekly pop-ups used to be homeless himself and broke out of poverty by selling breakfast burritos in front of a courthouse in Van Nuys. Now, he is sober and pays it forward every week. The group uses TikTok to raise funds and donate up to 1,500 tacos and more a week.
