Downey hosts an adventurous mix of free concerts at the second annual Make Music Downey, a Fete de la Musique event, on Saturday, June 14, 2014 from 11am-6pm.

The exciting festival of sound will feature over 60 bands and musicians performing in unconventional spaces including outdoor stages, museums, art galleries and more. Nationally known artists and Latin Grammy nominated bands perform at the main stage next to an interactive outdoor village featuring over 50 artists and community partners.  Fete de la Musique is the largest music celebration in the world, and Downey, a popular city in Los Angeles is bringing this international phenomenon to Southern California once again.

The 2014 event will feature an eclectic lineup including Chicano multi-instrumental group Las Cafeteras who was recently named LA’s best Latin Alternative band by LA Weekly and Latin Grammy nominee Ceci Bastida.  Popular Eastside LA fusionistas Chicano Batman will perform their innovative mix of pysch rock, cumbia and Brazilian tropicala. Argentinean musical collective Salt Petal will also be at the festival performing their alluring mix of tropical dance, cumbia and Argentinean folk.  Other groups include popular college radio band The Bends, the harmonic folk and bluegrass group Honey Whiskey Trio, and the Long Beach Ukulele Club.  All in all, over 60 bands and musicians will perform free shows at ten venues.  From folk, rock, world, Latin, to R&B, and blues, Make Music Downey showcases all the unique genres that make the Southern California music scene so diverse.

The festival of sound will feature a unique vendor village featuring over 50 artists and community partners near the main stage, located at 11111 Brookshire Ave in Downtown Downey.  Southern California’s most popular food and dessert trucks will be on hand selling delectable sweet and savory treats while community partners will offer fun giveaways to festival goers.

Attendees are encouraged to attend the festival early for the Tour de Downey, Downey’s first annual bike event.  The Tour de Downey takes place at Brookshire Ave, the same location as Make Music Downey’s main stage and features a 35 mile bike ride as well as an interactive vendor village beginning at 8am.

Make Music Downey is presented by the Downey Arts Coalition.  The Tour de Downey is presented by the City of Downey.
