Compton Art + Film Lab debuts with a special opening party! Enjoy live music by Mexico 68 Afrobeat Orchestra, and see a special outdoor screening of School Daze by Spike Lee at Luerders Park in Compton.

“Afrobeat will be one of the musics of the future” – Miles Davis

Mexico 68 Afrobeat Orchestra, is a thirteen-piece afrobeat collective based out of Los Angeles, California’s Eastside. Heavily influenced by the polyrhythmic sounds of Nigerian Recording Artist, Fela Anikulapo Kuti and Africa 70, Mexico 68 juxtaposes Chicano funk with the body-moving and illumiating vibes of afrobeat. The band features instrument from a wide range of traditions, including African, Latin, and jazz music.

Self-Defense Against ICE: Community Groups In L.A. Are Uniting to Protect Themselves

More than 50 organizations have joined the call to join this coalition, making it one of Southern California's largest immigrant rights coalitions. The group aims to extend from the San Fernando Valley to the U.S./Mexico border.
