Interview With Jim “Food One” Mahfood For Taco Madness

Food1

TACO hit up the indomitable Food One to engage in a little verbal intercourse about life, love and tacos. Check out the interview and see Jim Mahfood this Saturday at Taco Madness.

Tell us more about what you've been up to in 2014 and what's upcoming. Rockin' a bunch of new t-shirt designs for Nike for their new B-Ball streetwear line, doing all the art on the new Miami Vice comic book (written by Joe Casey), contributing art to the new 21st Century Tank Girl project, hustlin' the hand-made Pop-Up Funk pop-up Book, and shopping around the animated show that I did for MTV with my pals Scott Mosier & Joe Casey. It's called D.I.S.C.O. Destroyer (Liquid Television | Sneak Peek of Disco Destroyer from Episode 1). Updates on my work always at http://jimmahfood.com and Instagram is @jimmahfood.

You've chosen Access Books as your non profit-- why them? Anything to get people to read, anything to make books more available to young people (or anyone else for that matter) is all golden with me!

Describe your perfect day in Los Angeles. Draw, coffee, draw, taco, draw, drinks with friends, draw, random destruction, a prank phone call, draw, sleep a little, rinse/repeat.

Any update on your favorite taco? These tacos in LA, man, they be savin' lives!

Hildegardo ‘Japo’ Joya, Guardian of Raicilla’s Coastal Soul, Dies at 92

Japo had a presence that loomed large everywhere his raicilla landed, whether that was in one of Mexico’s most beloved cumbia mezcal bars, like Guadalajara’s Pare de Sufrir, where people order raicilla by name of the master distiller instead of brands they are associated with. Or in Torrance on Madre’s mezcal menu, where they still have 20 bottles left of a label Japo made for the restaurant. Like the greats in any craft, he created his own style of distilling that no other raicilla has come close to replicating.
