Boyle Heights Primavera Festival ~ June 15th

Boyle Heights Primavera Festival - Flyer

On Saturday, June 15, 2013 Boyle Heights residents will come together for a day under the sun at the 1st Annual Boyle Heights Primavera Festival. A culmination of the efforts of community-based organizations, the Festival aims to promote a healthy, sustainable community by engaging its members in activities that promote and celebrate gardening, fitness and nutrition

The fest will take place at Prospect Park from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., and will include a farmers’ market, a fitness course, resource booths, healthy food, live music and a children’s play area with arts and crafts. Free and open to the public, festival organizers anticipate over 1,500 Boyle Heights residents including children, adults, and seniors.

The festival will also include a 2-mile bicycle adventure through Boyle Heights that will take 100 youth to four community gardens, including Proyecto Pastoral, Jardin Abundancia, Girls Today Women Tomorrow, and Proyecto Jardin. At each stop, cyclists will participate in a series of health and wellness discovery workshops including seed bombing, juicing, and yoga. The bicycle adventure will provide the youth with hands-on experience in environmental education, healthy eating and food preparation, as well as fitness and well-being.

Organized by Las Fotos Project, C.E.S.A., Salesian Boys and Girls Club, Cross Fit City of Angels, LA Sewcial Club, Vegan Moni, HerManitas, and Mucho Music, this fun, outdoor gathering is sure to be the first of many to come as it delivers a day of education in an engaging and entertaining environment.

Sponsors of the Boyle Heights Primavera Festival include: The Southern California Gas Company, the California Endowment, Building Healthy Communities Boyle Heights, Bloggers of Health, Los Angeles City Council Member Jose Huizar, Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council, Senator Kevin De Leon, and the Los Angeles Produce Association. Media Partners include: Brooklyn and Boyle and the VideoMouse.

Street Vendors Successfully Sue City to Remove Illegal ‘No Vending’ Signs And Won

L.A. will also have to reimburse the street vendors for their past fines relating to this controversial sign. However, this does not include any other fines related to equipment restrictions or lack of permits. This also means that while a vendor can’t be cited for vending in areas like the Hollywood Walk of Fame anymore, they can still get cited for other city regulations.
