Drink Beer, Support BLM + ‘Tacos de Churro’ in El Sereno ~ Welcome Back to L.A.’s TacoWire

Here is what is going on in our tortilla-fueled city and some new spots to support this weekend.

New Dessert Taco Alert! Taco de Churro by Evil Cooks

Evil duo, La Bruja and El Pobre Diablo, are at it again raising temptations with an alluring new dessert taco they are adding to their menu this weekend. It’s a taco de churro, with a chocolate de abuelita spread, preserved lemons, and garnished with bacon bits and a flower. The tortilla is the same 50/50 flour-corn crepe-like mix they use for their famous flan taco, which will also be available alongside their black trompo. Find them Fridays and Saturdays from 5:00 – 8:30 PM.

Free Tacos for Everyone for L.A Autentica’s One Year Anniversary

L.A Autentica Birrieria in North Hollywood will be celebrating their one year anniversary and the purchase of a second taco truck by giving away up to four birria tacos on their fresh handmade tortillas, free drinks, and souvenirs per person to everyone on Tuesday, July 28th. They will also have fruit, ice cream, and corn vendors there for customers to support if they are feeling hungry and generous. Get there as early as 8:30 AM and find them parked at their usual location in front of the North Hollywood Target.

Metztli Taqueria Returns Five Nights a Week

Metztli Taqueria and their unique style of fine Alta-California tacos made with fresh local and seasonal produce make its way back to their old residency at Melody Wine Bar five nights a week. Their summer menu includes a mushroom chile verde with black garlic salsa, queso Oaxaca, and egg yolk bottarga. They’ll also have their classic barbacoa taco with hibiscus-dyed onion topped with caramelized onion salsa and Japanese guacamole on a handmade blue corn tortilla. If you make the mistake of passing up their octopus tostada with their rich miso peanut salsa macha, or their crab tostada with yuzu mayo, chile morita and grasshopper salsa, you can at least enjoy their seasonal addition of calabacitas, their take on every abuelita’s classic hearty and wholesome dish.

Burgers For Aileen

A’s BBQ is looking to smash their younger cousins medical bills with proceeds from this Saturday’s pop-up from 1:00-8:00 PM. You can DM to put your order in for an al pastor smash burger or a regular beef smash burger with guajillo mustard. They’ll also have their Puerquito sandwich made of smoked carnitas and queso Oaxaqueno, or go for the big boy known as el Cowboy, two beef patties with swiss cheese, crispy onions, smoked carnitas, and house-made jalapeño bbq sauce.

Drink Beer, Support BLM

Common Space Brewery in Hawthorne has brewed a tropical IPA with hints of tangerine and grapefruit called “Take Action IPA.” The cans are covered in vibrant artwork by local artist Devon Blow and all proceeds will be donated to Black Lives Matter L.A. They are available for pick up at the brewery, local delivery, and at select retailers starting July 24th. If you’re just coming back from a protest against DA Jackie Lacey or supporting the cause from home, either way this beer will be sure to freshen you up during the summer.

Daily Memo: ICE Pepper-Sprays and Throws an 80-year-old Attorney, Arrests a Community Watcher, and Takes Seven From Lompoc

Video shows a couple of agents piled on top of Randamaa, shoving his head to the ground as other community members watched in anger and horror. An 80-year-old attorney trying to advocate for the agents to get off Randamaa was pepper-sprayed in the face by one of the agents pinning down Randamaa with the signature Yoga Cobra Pose. As he was pepper-sprayed, you can see the lawyer throws his hands out while blinded, being eventually thrown to the ground by the Yoga agent.
