Nearly Five Million Bottles of Fabuloso Cleaner Recalled By Colgate-Palmolive Over Bacteria Concerns

4.9 million units of Fabuloso multipurpose cleaner, the señora’s standard of household cleansing products in Latino households, and the artificially flowery smelling, neon-colored muse of many Mexican memes, are being recalled by their manufacturer, Colgate-Palmolive, as noted by the Consumer Product Safety Commission today.

The massive recall has been spurred over concerns that five different scented versions may expose consumers to a harmful Pseudomonas bacteria strain. The bacteria are especially of concern for those with compromised immune systems, lung issues, or external medical devices.

According to its own website, Colgate-Palmolive claims:

Fabuloso® is voluntarily recalling some of our Multi-Purpose Cleaners because a preservative was not added at the intended levels during manufacturing. With inadequate preservative, there is a risk of bacteria growth in the recalled products. Therefore, the recalled products can contain Pseudomonas species bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Pseudomonas fluorescens, which are environmental organisms found widely in soil and water. People with weakened immune systems, external medical devices, or underlying lung conditions who are exposed to the bacteria face a risk of serious infection that may require medical treatment. The bacteria can enter the body if inhaled, through the eyes, or through a break in the skin. People with healthy immune systems are usually not affected by the bacteria.

NBC reports that around 3.9 million of the affected bottles were yet to be released for sale to the public. While the affected products were made between last December 14 and January 23, 2023.

People with normally healthy immune systems reportedly aren't typically affected by the pathogens. So they can go back to their regular scheduled fears about what the hell normally goes into these things on a good day.
