Los Angeles Father Dies Under ICE Custody — 9th Death This Year

According to the family, Gutierrez began to feel seriously ill with chest pains and shortness of breath last Friday at the Adelanto Detention facility, and his repeated requests for medical attention were denied.

Alberto Gutierrez, 48, was taken by Border Patrol agents on January 9 in Echo Park.

According to the family, Gutierrez began to feel seriously ill with chest pains and shortness of breath last Friday at the Adelanto Detention facility, and his repeated requests for medical attention were denied.

Gutierrez's wife tells ABC7 that he suffered from diabetes and high cholesterol. According to ICE, Gutierrez's medical intake form reported no significant concerns.

Gutierrez was pronounced deceased at 12:58 a.m. at Victor Valley Global Medical Center on February 27th. He was the sole provider for his wife and son.

Gutierrez's death is currently the ninth death under ICE custody that we know of.
