GTFO for Spring! Prison Gourmet, Ariana Grande Dance Party & Finally … Let the Flowers and Photos Be

It’s the first weekend of Spring, and I’m so ready to dust off my rompers and have fun! This weekend get a dose of culture and check out at least one of these art exhibits. If your wallet is a little tight this weekend, I got you — most of these events are free! So what are you waiting for L.A.? GTFO of the house and enjoy Spring!

POWHER: A Celebration of Women in Art

[dropcap size=big]L[/dropcap]ooking for art? Head over to the Regime Contemporary inside the Mayfair hotel to experience PowHer an art exhibit featuring only female artists tonight. The Regime Contemporary features many graffiti artist from around the world, I’m personally excited for this exhibit.

Karla Diaz: Prison Gourmet

[dropcap size=big]T[/dropcap]his is exactly what it sounds like. Karla Diaz’s multi-disciplinary installation Prison Gourmet is being featured at ESMoA gallery. There will be a live performance where Diaz will recreate one prison recipe collected from inmates, and the audience will get to try it. The project arose after the imprisonment of one of Diaz’s family members.

During the experience, the audience is encouraged to think about the politics of food and resistance. Get more details here.

Vegan Street Fair

[dropcap size=big]V[/dropcap]egan and non-vegans alike will enjoy this celebration of vegan food happening this Sunday in North Hollywood. Entry is free, and there will be 200 vendors, including one of my favorites, Vegatinos. The vendors showcase $4 items for folks to try. There will be entertainment, games, rides, and activities. Tacos and Art Show

Free

Tacos and Art? Seems pretty on brand to me. This art show features local artists and vendors. There will be a conversation about the art, a live band, DJ, Art Exhibition and of course, tacos. This is also a BYOB event, one wine bottle per person or one six pack. More details here.

Free Legal Clinic @ La Conxa

La Conxa is addressing the need by hosting a free legal clinic with Saavefra & associates Legal Services. This clinic can support folks that need expungements, preparing for parole hearings, fighting evictions, marijuana laws, referrals to legal aid. Services are confidential. Capuyo Coffee Grand Opening

Food will be by by none other than De La Luna Catering, who makes a mean cauliflower taco. There will be music by Xica Soul, Sleepwalk, and Sonido De Valle and vendors of course. Might be a great idea to stop by if you want to pick up a unique little something for someone. More details here.

Thank u, Next - An Ariana Pop Dance Party

A part of COOP-LA, this group brings helpful workshops to their communities in South East LA ranging from writing workshops, yoga, grad school applications, how to file your own taxes and more! This mixer will be held at Tio Pepe’s Restaurant on 8th Street and is set to be a good networking opportunity for community members. Get more details here.
