Boyle Heights: Activists with First Blocks of Whittier Boulevard, which organizes regular clean-ups on the streets of Boyle Heights, promise to bring the collected trash to the doors of City Hall until local politicians allocate resources to establish ground cleaning and sanitation crews. [FBofWB]

—Mid-City: Roscoe's Chicken & Waffles has closed their Pico Boulevard location in Mid-City after 30 years. Eater reports that the closing was planned for years. A new Roscoe's location opened a few blocks away last year. [Eater LA]

Pasadena: An employee of a Pasadena banquet hall suffered critical burns on Saturday evening when a fire was discovered during a quinceañera attended by 100 people. All attendees were safely evacuated while the injured man was hurt while investigating the incident and was taken to the hospital. [NBC]

—More than $1 million of hand sanitizer purchased by the LAUSD had to be disposed of because it reached its expiration date, after sitting at the district's warehouse for years. Reportedly, the district had to pay more than a million dollars to dispose of it, "while some teachers were asking parents for sanitizer to keep kids safe." [CBS]

Echo Park: Ms. Donut, an Echo Park donut shop in a longstanding donut-selling space, is expected to lose its lease this month or in early February, as its landlord appears close to completing a $1.5 million sale on the property. Local fans have been both mourning and supporting the business while one has set up a GoFundMe to help the owners support their children. [The Eastsider LA]

Altadena: A man was fatally shot by an L.A. County Sheriff's deputy in Altadena on Sunday evening. No details exist yet on what led to the shooting, in which the man was declared dead on the scene. [LADN]

Sherman Oaks: A small earthquake shook Sherman Oaks on Saturday evening, a tiny temblor of 2.3 that was strong enough for locals to feel but not enough to spur an early warning, which requires a 3 or higher on the Mercall scale. [LAist]
