Probing South Park: View the Original Art From the Pilot Episode

Culver City's Wonderful World of Animation Gallery has something special planned for this Christmas-- a rare look at the original art created for the series' pilot episode. Check out the press release for the opening, which is on December 4th, and RSVP information below...

Seize the unprecedented opportunity to view the origins of one of America's most beloved cultural phenomena as the Wonderful World of Animation proudly presents "Probing South Park," a special, limited-time exhibition of the original production art from South Park's groundbreaking pilot, "Cartman Gets an Anal Probe."

On loan from the studio archives, art has been made available for public viewing to give a behind the scenes glimpse at the intensive artistic process that went into creating what would become one of the edgiest, most thought provoking series in animation history. Join Director and Producer Eric Stough as he reveals the creative process that defined South Park and unveils several pieces of art from the show that have never been seen before.

For nearly the entirety of its run, South Park has been animated using computers, which makes the original, handmade paper cut artwork from its pilot so vital to the show's success, as it gave the series its signature style, setting it apart from contemporaries like The Simpsons and Family Guy.

South Park influenced a generation with its scathing humor and brilliant insights into cultural fads and established dogma, and the Wonderful World of Animation is honored to be the exclusive gallery for this extraordinary exhibition.

The tamal vs. tamale debate has an almost emotional connection with people simply because it becomes a “how my family speaks the language vs. how it’s ‘supposed to be’ written” type of language conflict. Ragusano is disappointed that the L.A. This is how people usually find out about something like this,” she added. “It's ironic because it happened to them.”
