Ernie the Moai Installation by Wild Life ~ La Brea Tar Pits

Wild_Life_Moai-2

Guerrilla art in the form of graffiti, posters, stickers, and illegal murals are well known and well documented, but guerrilla sculpture placement is much less discussed or understood. One of the foremost practitioners in Los Angeles is
Wild Life, who plays with cultural expectations created by contextual placements. His latest is a 10' high moai (Easter Island head) named Ernie which he installed at the La Brea Tar Pits with official-looking signage to validate its existence. The piece is still up, so go check it out while you can! Photos by: Landon Taylor.
