2006 Tamale Festival ~ This Weekend ~ MacArthur Park

Tamale Festival ~
November 11, 12, 13 ~ 2122 West Seventh Street, Los Angeles CA ~ TACO Map

MacArthur Park is one of the city's most amazing neighborhoods and has finally emerged from its dark days of lawlessness and transitory population. The reason for the turnaround has been a strong faith and belief of the residents of the area that they can create a better neighborhood and a better world. Organizations expressing this belief have sprung up around MacArthur Park. Some of them, such as Pueblo Nuevo Development and the Institute for Urban Research and Development, focus on community development. Others, such as Mama's Hot Tamales, work to create jobs in the community by harnessing the strengths the neighborhood has in natural abundance. Many people make a living from selling tamales-- on the sidewalk and late at night, at concerts and events, and in the park on the weekends. Mama's helps to train these vendors and gets them certified by the city to legally and safely sell their delicious wares. The tamale festival is at Mama's this year and is on November 10, 11 & 12. You should go to the tamale festival! Here is the info:
