Video of the Day: “Never Catch Me” by Flying Lotus Ft. Kendrick Lamar

Flying_Lotus_Youre_Dead_Album_Artwork

The new Flying Lotus album is incredible-- a powerful statement on life, death, and the power of music to create immortality. Others can do it justice in words, we'll just say go get it, now. The first video to be released is this collaboration with Kendrick Lamar. In a must-read article on OkayPlayer.com, FlyLo describes the track:

Kendrick came through and recorded to this song at the crib. Came alone. With a hoodie over his head. Ready to work. He wrote it on the spot and laid it down. I sang this part to him and he recorded it. He killed it. The second half of this song was called “Ramen Wars.” One of the most fun days ever. All these layer vocal ideas at the middle and end were inspired by Queen.

This amazing track is like the 10th best on the Album. Apparently a Kendrick verse was recorded for another track as well, but for some reason can't be released. Hopefully one day a bootleg will emerge because Kendrick's cadence and wordplay is perfectly suited to Flying Lotus' future jazz compositions.

The video itself is a short film that touches on many of the themes explored on the album and was directed by Hiro Murai.
