The L.A. Taco Horoscope for January, 2018

2018, we thought you’d never come!  The dumpster fire of 2017 has finally been put out, and new opportunities for health and transformation have arrived. We kick off the year with a celestial detox. On Jan. 1, a full moon in Gemini has you feeling all the feels, let them burn themselves out – they don’t serve you.  And all signs benefit from a Mercury/Saturn pairing on Jan. 12.  This aspect favors goals; set one.

January brings multiple planetary alignments that support transformation, and you’ll be cleaning under the sofa of your psyche on the 20th, when Neptune joins the Moon in Pisces.  Purify your energies any way you can: reiki, yoga, cooking, sex — whatever works. The month ends with a lunar eclipse on a Blood Moon (actually red due to atmospheric effects). This event serves as a powerful heart-opener; don’t forget to set your intentions for the New Year, as they will be supported by this beautiful event.

Aries (March 21 – April 20):

You’ll find personal success in helping others this year, Aries, and January provides a good preview of 2018. Your ruling Mars hooks up with two other planets this month: first with lucky Jupiter (Jan. 6), supplying energy and enthusiasm for all your pursuits, especially benefiting justice. On the 11th, when Mars joins the Moon in Libra your natural dynamism will present as generosity. Refine your powers through serving others. Watch out for the new moon on the 17th; it could shove you back into selfishness territory, which is not where your strengths lie this year.

Taurus (April 21 – May 21):

The most powerful day for the bull this month is Jan. 8, when your ruling planet, Venus, is in superior conjunction with the Sun. (This means that Earth, the Sun, and your planet align, supercharging your beautiful bull’s heart. You’ll be giving and receiving positivity — everyone should hang out with a Taurus that day. This will be a welcome shift from the beginning of the month, when a full Moon in Gemini (Jan. 1st) makes you moody. Hang in there. The good vibes are on their way. The celestial heart-opener continues on the 10th, when a lucky Jupiter/Moon pairing activates your inner bodhisattva. You’ll be embodiment of compassion. Thanks in advance!

Gemini (May 22 – June 21):

2018 begins with an emotional detox for the twins, Gemini — flipping all the channels to burn them out.  Your ruling Mercury goes the distance on the 1st, reaching its maximum elongation from Earth. If you feel a bit groundless, remember that when your mind goes far, it finds new insights. On the same day, a full Moon in your house will leave you as quick-witted as always, if a bit hyper. I recommend dance or physical activity. A super powerful alignment on the 12th sees your ruling Mercury align with Saturn. You’ll feel extra determined, exact, and logical. My advice is to make a game plan for the year ahead, one that includes inner discipline.

Cancer (June 22 – July 22):

Crab, you’re such a showboat this year you’d pass for a Leo! On the first day of this New Year, your full Moon in Gemini is freaking everyone out but you! Expect to feel all the feels, and then process emotions like a detox. The 10th is especially lucky for the crab, when your Moon pairs with Jupiter in Libra, hearts turn towards harmony. You’ll be extra sensitive to bad vibes — burn some incense to keep them at bay. Jan. 14 brings spectacular opportunity for transformation when your ruling Moon aligns with both Saturn (6 p. m.) and Mercury (11 p.m.) The month ends with another Moon show — a lunar eclipse on a Blood Moon (Jan. 31). How you really feel about an important topic will be evident to you.

Leo (July 23 – August 22):

The year begins with a bang for all Leos. January 2nd is a big day for the kitty – Earth is at perihelion (closest to the sun) so soak up the powerful solar vibrations that fuel your purr-machine. An alignment on the 8th has your ruling Sun, lovely Venus, and Mama Earth lining up in Sagittarius (11 p.m.) empowering your love life. And another alignment — this time with Pluto (Jan. 9) — taps into the astral plane, supporting regeneration. Bring your sweet self into harmony with the divine. On the 12th, a Mercury/Saturn pairing (11 p.m.) brings insights on humanitarian concerns. Set some goals and feel their realization all year.

Virgo (August 23 – September 22):

Beautiful Virgin, your famous chill will melt this January. It is just an opportunity to regain your focus, and reaffirm your goals for the year ahead. On the 1st of the month, your ruling planet Mercury goes as far from earth as it can (maximum elongation). Don’t lose confidence - good stuff happens outside of your comfort zone. The same day sees a full Moon, again making you feel rocky. As an earth sign, find ground by hiking or visiting a garden - get out of your head and into nature. On the 12th, Mercury joins Saturn in a spectacular alignment (visible at 11 p.m.). The energy it confers will support you in your goals for the New Year, especially if your heart is on board.

Libra (September 23 – October 22):

The scales tip toward love this month, Libra. You host three benevolent planetary alignments. On Jan. 6 a Mars/Jupiter pairing favors commitment. So go hard or go home. On the 10th, a Jupiter/Moon union (also in your house) taps into the good vibrations. Bring them into your home by burning a little sage (or sacred herb of your choice) to smoke out the lingering 2017 mojo.  And a Mars/Moon alignment on the 11th serves as a powerful heart-opener. The love in the room is coming from you. On the last day of the month a lunar eclipse on a blood moon (ruby red and gorgeous) reminds you to trust your heart, and listen to it!

Scorpio (October 23 – November 21):

January is a big month for the scorpion. Your ruling Mars sees two planetary alignments this month; first on the 6th, when a Mars/Jupiter pairing bestows luck and blessings on all your side-hustles. You can work a little less hard with luck in your corner. On Jan. 11, when Mars joins the Moon in Libra (2 a.m.) you’ll feel an added emotional weight to your plans. Feelings are people too, little scorpion, so listen to them. And on last day of the month, a lunar eclipse on the full blood moon — yes, it is actually red — will increase the volume on that inner voice you sometimes ignore.

Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21):

Lucky archer, your ruling planet, Jupiter, gooses you twice this month; first by aligning with Mars (Jan. 6) in compassionate Libra, where it benefits justice. Go get some.  And on the 10th, Jupiter and the Moon align in a powerful heart-opener. Saturn and Mercury dance in your house on the 14th. Both align with the Moon, providing an opportunity for change: go deep, go wide, go with love. Don’t pick fights — let them pick you. Just arm yourself with love; it freaks out the haters.  A Blood Moon gets a full eclipse on the 31st, empowering your heart’s great dream for the year. Make a wish on it.

Capricorn (December 22 – January 20):

Capricorn, your ruling Saturn aligns with Mercury in Sagittarius on the 12th  (11 p.m.) supporting all determined goats. I recommend exact, logical planning for any 2018 projects. What do you want from the New Year, and from yourself? Make a game plan. On the 14th, Saturn has a date with the Moon (6 p.m.) reaffirming the goals you set on the 12th.  Start new projects on Jan. 17 — the new moon in Capricorn favors you. But beware of selfishness; it undermines your best efforts.

Aquarius (January 21 – February 19):

Water Bearer, the month begins with your ruling Uranus going stationary in Pisces. This mystical placement supports all yogis but remember, yoga happens off the mat too. To maximize the celestial energy, try a juice fast, meditate, and respond without reacting. You saw the end of The Last Jedi, didn’t you? On the same day, some extra solar energy will lively up yourself when Earth approaches the mighty sun in what astronomers call perihelion. Later in the month, Neptune and the Moon align (Jan. 20 at midnight) in your house, prompting a psychic vulnerability alert. Learn a technique to shut off other peoples’ energies or they will drain you like vampires! On the plus side, your dreams will be off the hook — I’m talking ayahuasca territory — and potentially prophetic. Write them down!

Pisces (February 19 – March 20):

Your natural emotionality will have the volume turned to eleven this January, Pisces. The full moon on the 1st will have you feeling melancholy, and on the 2nd, when Uranus goes stationary in your house you’ll be extra psychic. It’s a good idea to write down any insights that bear on the year ahead. On Jan. 23, a Uranus/Moon pairing (5 p. m.), also in Pisces, will move your sensitive heart — lock your door and let it out! I recommend raw chocolate and watching Call Me By Your Name, again. Protect others from your crazy moodiness by silencing your phone. Whatever they want it can wait until February.

Ophiuchus (November 29 – December 17):

You won’t have much to rebel against this month, Snake-Bearer, except perhaps yourself. On the First, the full Moon in Gemini could expose your soft interior, destroying your tough-guy persona. Let it out and keep others on their toes. You’ll complete a difficult task on the 6th when lucky Jupiter gives hard-working Mars an assist. And the lunar eclipse on the 31st puts you in a sentimental mood. How embarrassing! Now that everyone knows you’re not the Marlboro Man, go in for a hug. Just put your snake down first.

This is how people usually find out about something like this,” she added. “It's ironic because it happened to them.”
