Solitary Sessions: AZEKEL – “The War Inside”

"Remember: the time you feel lonely is the time you most need to be by yourself. Life's cruelest irony." -old white guy

Solitary Sessions is music curated for those long, dark hours when the weight of the world is most felt. For those who [purposefully?] suffer from millennial anxiety and existential dread. For those who get lost [trapped?] in their thoughts. Sip, savor, find solace or let it seethe.

Today's prescription: AZEKEL - "The War Inside"

London-based artist, AZEKEL caught my attention a while ago with the sleek way he fused R&B, pop, and electronic music. Last summer, he gave us Raw, Vol. 1and with "The War Inside," he presents us with the first taste of Raw, Vol. 2.  AZEKEL remarks, "I usually write songs about romance, relationships, and my experiences, but thought I'd try my hand writing about some social commentary, something you can ride and think to." This maneuver was noticeable, as the songwriting struck with resonance (lyrics below). In simple, yet forcible words, AZEKEL whispers convictions through a grumbling bassline.

Download the song here. Raw, Vol. 2 is due early 2016 via Thunderlightning Recordings.

"The War Inside" Lyrics:

Theres a war inside
that no child is safe from
the people started a new religion
and claim that they found God.

In fast food, new drugs
and redefining what we call love
If theres a war outside
theres a war inside.

& my mind wont break,
if my love wont take
it won't take it no more.

Thres a war inside
that no race is safe from
being white's the new black
self hate's the new crack.

whats the difference between us
when we all want the same high
If theres a war inside
theres a war outside.

& my mind wont break,
if my love can't take it
it won't take it no more.
