2008 GraffHead Year in Review Part 1

Many of the world's greatest graffiti artists call Los Angeles their home. Maybe it's the great weather or the diverse population… Whatever the reason, LA's artists put out creative work year after year. Here is a rundown of some of the work of LA's best! (Disclaimer: I apologize to anyone that I left out. This list is of course incomplete.)

Buket TKO
The insane footage of Buket painting on the 101 freeway overpass in broad daylight from the upcoming War 4 movie was picked up by all the Los Angeles news stations. This unfortunately lead to his arrest. After spending about 7 months behind bars, Buket has been sentenced and released.

Also, in an interesting twist, Evidence from the Dilated Peoples gets mistaken for Buket.

May 31, 2008 - Upper Playground opens its doors in Los Angeles (see more pictures from the opening day on LAtaco and GraffHead)

In addition to the clothing store, there are 3 other stores right next to each other. One of which is the FIFTY24LA gallery which showcased art from Usugrow, Sam Flores, Jeremy Fish, David Choe, Herbert Baglione, San, Retna, Saber, Alex Pardee, Ron English, Doze Green, Slick, Armsrock and David Ellis.

June - Mr. Brainwash (MBW) makes it on the cover of LA Weekly. He also has his first hugely successful show entitled Life is Beautiful. So many people showed up to the opening that many were turned away.

June 21, 2008 - World Premier of Dirty Hands: The Art and Crimes of David Choe (see pictures from the premier)
The documentary by Harry Kim premiered at the LA Film Festival to a sold out crowd. The movie gives us a glimpse into the life of super talented and out of control artist David Choe.
