Baker, CA is on Interstate 15, adjacent to the Mojave National Preserve and about two-thirds of the way from Los Angeles to Los Vegas. I found these great wheat-pastings on a closed down desert gothic gas station, which included a partially torn down skullphone. Just the icing-on-the-cake for a post-Vegas pit stop that included baklava and kadaifi from the Mad Greek Café and the wonderment of the “World’s Tallest Thermometer”, a Baker landmark since 1991.The thermometer itself is 134 feet tall, commemorating a record setting high of 134 degrees Fahrenheit, experienced in nearby Death Valley in 1913.
