If you are Iranian, there is a chance you'll run into someone you know at Canary. If you're not, you almost certainly won't. So depending on where your parents were born, this place can be either a social club or a hideout. A peaceful lunchtime sandwich hideout. While the menu features all kinds of basic Persian grub, from kabobs to... different types of kabobs, the real action for the lunch-hour crowd is with the sandwiches. The kabob lunch special sandwich is excellent, a nice long ground beef kabob surrounded by lettuce, tomato, pickles, some garlic and spces, wrapped up in tasty Persian bread. The hotdog sandwich, which is served South-of-France style in a baguette with a hole in it, and then Canary-style with peppers, garlic, and cabbage, is also a winner. Don't forget to order some melon juice to wash it all down with-- Canary has some of the best melon juice in this city, and while it's a bit pricey, the glass is huge. The friendly staff is quick with a smile, the price is right, and the location is sleepy but easy to get to, with free parking in the back. All in all, if you need to vary your sandwich routine, Canary is a good option.
