A Fully Stocked Supermarket Made Entirely of Felt ~ Lucy Sparrow’s L.A. Debut at The Standard

[dropcap size=big]B[/dropcap]ritish artist Lucy Sparrow made her West Coast debut this month with Sparrow Mart, a fully-felted supermarket that is currently open to the public until the end of August at The Standard, Downtown LA.

The installation features 31,000 handmade felt grocery store pieces ranging from a fully stocked sushi bar to a movie section filled with 1980s inspired box-office hits. Each piece is available for purchase and signed by the artist herself.

Sparrow previously had a similar felt installation in London but instead of a grocery store it was a sex shopMadame Roxy’s Erotic Emporium featured felt sex toys, pornographic magazines, and jars full of felt sexually transmitted infections.

Last year, in New York, Sparrow opened a flet bodega called 8 Till Late, which sold out of its 9,000 felt products in 15 days. But the L.A. show is on another level. The artist made felt everything: sardines, slices of pizza, bottles of Colt 45, Absolut vodka, Maker's, as well as frozen treats and meat on a grinder.
