Support These Tacos, Burritos, And Tattoos That Give Back To Immigrants

Since you have to eat to survive, please consider dining at a place that could really use everyone's support right now or is giving back.

We're highlighting businesses that are donating their proceeds to immigrant-focused non-profits, or offering to feed families in need.

Since you have to eat to survive, please consider dining at a place that could really use everyone's support right now or is giving back, whether it's a restaurant in the mandated curfew zone in and around Downtown, or one of the following places that are giving back.

SAD GIRL CREAMERY ~ DOWNTOWN

Sad Girl Creamery, a Latina-led, small batch ice cream company known for its take on Choco Tacos and Mexican hot chocolate s'mores cones, will donate 20% of its proceeds (including tips) to CHIRLA (The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights). Catch it at Smorgasburg at The Row DTLA this Sunday. Take a dad for a scoop!

EL BARRIO CANTINA ~ LONG BEACH

El Barrio Cantina is offering an "Órale Menu," which offers two of its celebrated taquitos de papa with one of four featured cocktails for $13 through June 15. All proceeds go to Long Beach-based non-profit Órale, which fights for immigrant communities. Drink options include three margaritas and a whiskey sour.

KITCHEN GANGSTAS ~ LONG BEACH/DELIVERY

Kitchen Gangstas is a meal prep service based in Long Beach that offers delivery around L.A., O.C., and the Inland Empire.

The business is offering to bring warm meals of picadillo and steak picado, with beans and rice on the side, to the doorsteps of families affected by ICE raids for free, along with groceries if needed. Owners say, "Feel free to reach out no need to feel embarrassed. This is what community is supposed to be about, helping each other out in hard times."

In addition to supporting the business through patronage, it is looking for donations of plates, food trays, drinks, groceries, or funds to KitchenGangstas Venmo. If you know of any families that are in need of meals right now, or want to make a donation, hit Kitchen Gangstas up over DM.

TACOS AND PUPUSAS ~ BELLFLOWER/GARDENA/DOWNEY

Earlier this week, a trio of restaurants offered hundreds of tacos and pupusas to families in need. Assuming you're into tacos and pupusas, please consider getting some suadero tacos from El Fogon in Bellflower, a fat fluffy pupusa from Los Cheros in Gardena, or a meat-filled burrito from Don Goyo, which has locations in Downey, Brea, and City of Industry, and help repay their kindness to those who need it the most.

CARNITAS EL GORDO PANZON ~ HACIENDA HEIGHTS

Carnitas El Gordo Panzon prepares hundreds of pounds of carnitas every Saturday and Sunday in Hacienda Heights, including chicharron, maciza, buche, and cueritos. Owner Raphael has offered to feed any families in need. You can show your support by going to his stand and buying some slow-cooked pork this weekend.

X'TIOSU KITCHEN ~ BOYLE HEIGHTS

Lebanese-influenced Oaxacan restaurant X'Tiosu hopes to feed members of its community this weekend and is asking for donations to help in its efforts. Come by for a beef kebab or chicken shawarma burrito soon, as the family-owned restaurant has faced its own challenges surviving in recent times.

TAQUERIA FRONTERA ~ CYPRESS PARK

You can support additional businesses that are giving portions of their proceeds to immigration non-profit CHIRLA while getting a tattoo, seeing a comedy show or a punk show, buying cute stickers, candles, protest shirts, Labubu shirts, clothing, jewelry, and plants.
